Garden design services beyond the Pandemic

As we approach two years since the Covid-19 pandemic prompted the introduction of a sequence of restrictions, it seems an appropriate moment to reflect on this extraordinary period.  The pandemic has impacted everyone to varying degrees, whether directly on our health and wellbeing, or the way we have been able to live and work.  The Cheshire Garden is no exception.  As for many businesses the introduction of the lockdown in March 2020 required an immediate change of approach.  Opportunities to be on site with clients were immediately curtailed and landscaping works postponed.  Instead, consultations had to be conducted remotely via video calls – indeed initially some clients were even advised on plant positioning via Zoom!

Fortunately, throughout the various levels of restriction, The Cheshire Garden has been able to keep serving the needs of its clients.  Several projects which commenced before the onset of the pandemic have been successfully completed during this period and a variety of new projects taken on.  For many people the pandemic has brought a new found appreciation for the value of green space and a desire to make much more of their own gardens.  For some the switch to home working has also created a need for a suitable workspace such as a garden office.  As such demand for garden design services has continued and even increased over the past two years.  The Cheshire Garden has worked hard with clients, both new and existing, to achieve the gardens that they desire.

Nonetheless, there have been challenges.  Disruption to the supply chain has resulted in difficulties in acquiring the materials and plants selected for designs, and volatility in prices.  This has at times required careful and creative consideration of suitable alternatives which could allow projects to proceed without compromising on the design vision or the quality of the build.  Disruption to planned work schedules along with increased demand has also impacted on the availability of landscaping contractors to complete the build.  In response to this The Cheshire Garden has sought to expand its network of high quality and reliable landscaping firms with which it can work to deliver results for clients.

It is hoped that as we emerge from the most difficult aspects of the pandemic to our ‘new normal’ some of the issues of the past two years will start to recede.  Notwithstanding this, a garden design project needs to be considered in the same terms as other major home improvements such as a house extension or a new kitchen.  From design development through to delivery of the build, and a phased approach to planting, may take 18 months to two years.

The Cheshire Garden has built a reputation for high quality designs produced in collaboration with clients to ensure that the final product is exactly what they want.  Our strong network of landscaping contractors, suppliers and specialists help us to deliver beautiful gardens that will be enjoyed for many years.  Operating during a pandemic has required a high level of adaptability, and this has allowed us to not only maintain our services but to thrive.  Our business is in demand but clients can be assured that the gardens we create together will be well worth the wait.
